Light Blogging

I’m a bit overwhelmed with work these days, to put it mildly, and blogging will probably not be regular. I don’t know. I might blog a little just for a break but I expect to have to work straight through the weekend. If I stick to this and you notice comments closing on posts while they’re still on the main page, it’s because they are more than seven days old. We’ll see...

On Comments Again

This didn’t last long. The blog doesn’t feel the same without people commenting. I looked for a less radical solution to the spamming problem and am using a plug-in that closes comments on posts once they leave the main page. It won’t prevent someone from filling the main page with profanity or racial slurs, but it will cut back on 80% of the problem. That just leaves the a**holes...

Lazy Linking

I’m feeling too burned out to blog in my usual manner because that involves writing and actual thought — I can already hear the groans from opponents, so save them. Work has been a bear and I have a fancy to-do to attend tomorrow, which I’ll blog about. It might only be of interest to Mississippians. In the mean time: * Kate, of Electric Venom, has the scoop on a brilliant, if obsessive,...

This Is Why I’m Not One Of The Bigs

OpinionJournal: Politicians Go Online: They can run, but can they blog? I’ve finally figured it out: I’m not snarky enough. I’m sarcastic on occasion, but not nearly enough. I’ll have to work on that and quit being so mild-mannered. From now on I’m going to use the word “peckerwoods” in every post as well. [Ed. — Maybe not.] I’ve been following...

A Slow Change Of Format

In the past I’ve used excerpts from news stories as a platform for commentary and have decided to TRY to change my format a bit. Over the course of the next few weeks I will attempt to move to more of an essay-style blog. I have a couple of reasons for wanting to do this: 1. I want to post less and put more thought into the posts I do make. 2. I want to improve my writing skills. My commentary...

President Bush Needs A Blog

I’ve been digging through Howard Dean’s blog and I’ve concluded that he’s done an excellent job. Not only that, it’s a grassroots method of campaigning and Presidential candidates without them will look lame by comparison. President Bush has a website, but what he needs is a blog. I even called the number at the bottom of his site and told the person that answered the...

Curiously, My Blog Was Left Out

The Big Four: How a small quartet of blogs is poised to remake the political landscape as the ’04 election cycle begins. Yet more evidence that the media world doesn’t revolve around the FCC and Big Media. I don’t know how much influence the blogosphere will have over Presidential politics but it’ll be interesting to see. Also, it’s quite possible that it will act as a...

New Blogger Additions

I haven’t done this in a while. When I find a site I like I usually just blogroll it and move on. Lately, though, I’ve added several new sites and thought I would say a word or two about them: * Page 3 Girls: I added this to spice up the old blogroll, and if that doesn’t do it, nothing will. There isn’t one post on that page that doesn’t contain nudity. You’ll notice...
