Intolerable Cruelty

The Coen Brothers have been on a bit of a roll in recent years. It started with Fargo — love that woodchipper scene — went on with The Big Lebowski — a personal favorite of mine — continued with O Brother, Where Art Thou and The Man Who Wasn’t There. I loved O Brother, Where Art Thou — especially the soundtrack — and thought The Man Who Wasn’t There was a decent enough exercise in style.

Now they’ve come out with Intolerable Cruelty, which is not in the same league as Raising Arizona or even The Big Lebowski, but has some real laughs in it. The inhaler sequence is a classic and a magazine about living without intestines gets a big laugh as well.

Catherine Zeta-Jones is perfect as the money-grubbing divorcee’ and George Clooney does well as the divorce attorney who falls for her. I don’t want to say too much about the plot, but if you’re a Coen Brothers fan you won’t want to miss this movie and if you have an off-kilter sense of humor, you’ll probably like it as well.
