Deploying Soldiers Receive Farewell

The green grass of Schofield Barracks’ Sills Field was temporarily replaced by the khaki of hundreds of Desert Camouflage Uniforms Friday during a deployment ceremony for Soldiers deploying to Iraq.

Soldiers from the 2nd Brigade Combat Team and other U.S. Army, Hawaii units who are deploying stood in formation as fellow Soldiers, family members, friends and other well-wishers came out to bid them farewell before they leave.

Flights started Tuesday morning and eventually, more than 4,500 Soldiers from Hawaii will deploy for Operation Iraqi Freedom.
