Adventure Getaways to Queensland

If you’re a visitor to Cairns Australia , there are some great activities to do for those thrill junkies among you.

The Tully River, which is about a two hour drive south of Cairns, is claimed to be the ultimate white water rafting river in Australia and New Zealand, and is considerably better after the monsoon season! Two local companies run tours, namely R&R Rafting and Raging Thunder. They organise tours from their offices in Cairns to the Tully River or, for the less adventurous, the Barron River. We all know, The Tully River offers rapids up to Grade 4, and the Barron River has rapids up to Grade three. This allows for rafting at all times of the year, even in the middle of the dry season. You have to understand, Both rivers run on what is known as ‘controlled release’, where the water is released from a reservoir upstream. Everyone I talk to who has done one of these tours has raved about it!

So the Whitewater Rafting in Cairns is outstanding.

As a bonus theres also the Great Barrier Reef, which is the number 1 tourist attraction in Australia and the envy of everybody elsewhere. What I’m trying to say is this – You could learn to scuba dive with one of the many dive centres in the region or just do a introductory dive on any of the cruises to the reef. Personally, I would advise the area around Cape Tribulation as the reef is a bit closer than other places and is a bit less visited by tons of others.
